As part of writing, we were learning how to write a quality blog comments for students. Why do you think it is important to learnt maths in school?

This is my presentation about why do you think it is is important to learn maths in school. We used the ruler as our characters to make it more interesting. I collaborated on this presentation with one of my classmates, Manu. We think that this is a very cool way of telling people why Maths is important at school.

Writing in maths - San Tat

What is problem solving? Does it only happen in Maths?

Problem solving is when you are finding out numbers or an answer. When you are finding out an answer you have to have a strategy, so that you can explain it. When you are solving a problem you are explaining a strategy and finding out the answer. You need to have a strategy before you find out an answer. When you are solving a problem it doesn't only happen in maths it also happens in school, shops, work and sometimes at home.

Today for writing we had a 20 minutes maths quick write, We did this to give a clear explanation about problem solving. This helped us have a proper understanding of how to write a paragraph about problem solving. This can also help us to develop our knowledge in maths.

Flag Vote Results

Today we had a school vote based on which flag we would want the flag to be changed to. Every student in our school had a chance to choose which flag they wanted. Mr. Johnston shared the results with us today. I voted for the red and blue fern flag because it is very eye catching and I love the design.

Critical friend and Toolbox - San Tat

Today we had to partner up with a critical friend so they can help finding mystic in our writing sample. We had to use the toolbox to help us find what stage we are on and what we need to try next time. I find out that in my writing I had only use one or twice adjectives and I need to use more adjectives.  

Science

Today the year 7 and 8 went down to tamaki college for tech, after tech we had an science session we had to learn about science such as physical world and many more. Our teacher miss bunts gave us a really hard challenge I didn't understand what we were doing but it was really fun. 

Guy Fawkes DLO

This is my DLO about Guy Fawkes that I did with Thomas, Zahn and Manu. We chose to focus on one of the plotter's point of view and how they would have felt when they were running from the king.

Football Math

This is a screen shot of a game i played called Football math. I got up to level 5 and scored 188. This game help me learn my decimals and place value.

San Tat - DARE DLO

This is a DLO that shows smokes and achole are bad for you and many other things. We had to make this because we had to put all our information about what we know about our DARE Programe.

Some of these facts we learnt are true and if you did not know smokes contain very bad things EG: Rat poison.

7 timetable - San Tat

This is my maths for the week. Our maths for this week was to focus on our seven times tables. The person who helped me with this activity was my dad. I like working with my dad because he tell me new skill to solve a problem.

Music

For music room 5 learnt how to play the xylophones. The music we learnt was When the Saints go marching in. I liked this activity but it was kind of hard.

Wheelchair Rugby - San Tat

This  is my DLO that I did with Manu for reading we had to read a book about wheel chair rugby these are the information that we got.

5 W's- San Tat

This is my homework about the 5 W's. Room 5 has to make a homework about the 5W's, What, When, Who, Where, Why and I just put which because sometime we use it. I think this task was interesting because if I know all of the 5 w's then I would answer questions straight away and I would go up a level in Writing.

Thank You Letter to Mrs Anderson- San Tat

Thank you Mrs Anderson for always helping me with my work and showing me new and different games in maths. Thank you for having me in your class and accepting everything. Thank you for everything. It would be sad leaving you next year and I hope you have a better class next year. Thank you again Mrs Anderson.

Basketball - San Tat

Today for kiwi sports we had another session of basketball and our instructors were coach Mark and coach Milly. We were practising dribbling and pivots. We were also learning how to cup the ball. We also got marks for teamwork and encouragements.

Ukulele - San Tat

On Wednesday Room 5 went to music classes. But the only thing was it wasn't our normal music teacher, it was three students from our class. The songs we learnt to play was Kiwi Ukulele and Islands. I really like  Islands because I could play it and Kiwi Ukulele was a bit hard because you had to change really quickly. 

Recount - San Tat

I was walking down the road to go to my great aunt's grave. I felt like something was watching me. I saw old house sitting on top of a lumpy hill. So i went closer to the house as i see the house getting larger and larger.I open the door and every step i took i could her a creaking noises beneath me. I hear creepy footsteps behind me, and i see stairs so i quickly run up the stairs and see a long hallway. All of a sudden the lights start’s flickering on and of. I see this mysterious room with a big closet just sitting in the middle of the room. I went into the room to see what was inside. I opened it and one big giant ghost was staring at me. It did not hurt me it did not harm me. I recognized this face somewhere. Then i got a big shock and realized it was my great aunty. I had so many questions to ask her but as i blinked my eyes she disappeared.

This is the subtraction practice I did today. There are 13 questions all together and I had to answer them. Since I praticed with the subtraction group and Mrs Anderson I knew exactly what the answers were

Today we went to a senior syndicate assembly but the only difference was that it was an elective presentation.

Run Jump Throw

RUN JUMP THROW

Today we went to run jump and throw, Andy told us some of the skills for shot put and discus. For the shot put we need to know how to do the dirty fingers, dirty neck and clean palms. To do a shot put you need to put the shot put ball on your chin under your ear. Put your left leg back of the line face side way, bean your knee look back low to high and watch it fly. To throw a discus hold the discus with your first shelf which is your first lines on your fingers. It sold fall out if you hold your hand upside. 3rd swing up clap bean your leg and look back. Then swing your discus low to high watch it fly.

Speech Reflection: San Tat

I presented my speech to the classroom about why games should be unblocked at schools. I think I did good and had a clear voice but next time I think I need to use expression when I read out some of my ideas/points so then I can hook my audience.

Home learning: pay it forward 

Breakfast in school

In our opinion students don’t have breakfast will be not able to focus on their learning and just focus on their stomach. Do you think it's fair that students come to school without having breakfast? How would you feel if you had to go to school without breakfast? Some kids might not have time to have their breakfast at home because they might rushing for school. Some kid might not have enough breakfast to eat and their brother or sister might eat it all. They might of forgot to eat or no more food or lunch, if they don’t have breakfast they have to still come to school. If student does not have breakfast then they will not focus on the learning and they will just focus on their stomach. Some kid might not have energy to play sport at school. Their mum and dad might not have time to make their children a breakfast because they might have to go work. Some kid mud and dad might forget to buy the kid breakfast and they might forget to bring their money. Some parent might forget to buy their children breakfast or they might forget to bring money. Some kid parent might not have time to make their kid lunch and they might have to go and buy the ingredients. This is why I think we should have breakfast at school because Some kid might not have energy to participate and contribute and they might not focus on the learning and just focus on their stomach.

Speech

Hello everyone today I'm going to be stating why games should not be blocked at school. Do you know how much time we spend in the classroom? I demand games to be unblocked, because games are really important for some people in general. Doing all the work will make your brain hurt. Why do people think playing online games is bad for our learning? Online games are just like playing games in real life. People think ‘Tankionline’ is bad but I believe it should be unblocked. This is because it is the only games that people like to play. I love playing online games therefore I demand for them to be unblocked. We need to have some time to rest our brains! Lots of students are bored of working. Doing work isn’t fun but playing games is. Tanki Online is a really cool game once you understand the purpose. Children who work all the time are getting bored. Games can help because it provides fun to all  the student for EG: Tankionline, Agario, Pokemon and Minecraft. How would you feel if I blocked your class site? After all our hard work, don’t you think teachers should give us permission to have fun once in awhile. I am sure everyone agrees with me!

Country Run - San Tat

Today Afternoon we went down to Dunkirk Park for our cross country. When we went down to Dunkirk Park We have to go with room 4 because next to Dunkirk there was a road. When we at Dunkirk park we have to set  down with our class. We have to run in a year group, When it was year 8 turn I was really nervous because my right leg was hurt. I was really tired when I was running, and I can't breathe properly. But I have a really good Afternoon, I was happy that year 8 from room 5 came 1, 2 and 3. Dontalian came 1, I came 2 and Oh S'Mar came 3. It was a really fun country run at Dunkirk.

Today we had another session on Run jump throw with Andy. We learnt about High Jump and Long Jump. These are the rules for long jump: Swinging arms, Bent Knees, Looking up and two feet landing. For high jump the rules are Slightly bent knees, J Shape which is run from an angle, quick action, Leading arm/leg and jump from the side of the leading leg

This morning we went to kiwi sport which was run jump  throw, Andy taught us some of the thing that you need to know when you are running, She taught us looking straight ahead, cheek to cheek with arm movement and stand tall. She said to us when you are starting don't look at the stater.

In room 7 we have to make a mask with Mis Paton. How to make a mask 1 Mis Paton put a vaseline on our face so that it don't get sticky. Then the put gad rap to cover my eye. 2 she put ab

out 2 or 3 layer of cloth on our face. When she put the cloth on my face I felt happy but then when she finish It was really hot. 3 she put me next to the hottest place, after 10 min then she tell someone to dry my face up about 5 min. Then she take it of, she take it really slowly so that it don't crack. After she take it of my face was red. This is how I made my mask.

Part of our last night's home learning was to do something with or for someone else. I chose to clean my bed room, I clean my bed room and clean up all the rubbish. My brother really like my bed room.  

San Tat - Cook Island Language week DLO

This is my homework about Cook Island Language week. I learnt that 90% of islander can read and Wright in both languages. I did not know that soccer, cricket and rugby are widely played all over Cook Island.

Today I created a information poster with my buddy. This poster is about Maori Language Week. On this poster we have included what is Maori language week, when, why we have it and how we can celebrate it.
